Vacation Song
Do you remember the drive to Montreal for my first game at the Forum?
I was 9 years old, my eyes were filled with stars
We didn’t get many vacations.
It wasn’t easy on my Dad when we were screaming in the back
Then we got lost and ended up in Sherbrooke
And he was wishing we just never left.
Do you remember in Niagara Falls with my newborn baby brother?
Well I remember. The best time I ever had!
When you’re that young a trip is golden.
But we could see it in your eyes when he wouldn’t stop his crying
And woke up half the hotel with his screaming
And you were wishing you were home in bed.
So now that we can look back and we forgot all of the bad
But how the good shines through
These are memories I have of me and you
Now I’m older and I’ve got my own kids. We’ve been on one or two vacations.
I can tell you that my patience wore thin
Sometimes I even wondered why we left
But just a twinkle in their eye and I see them get inspired
And now I know what makes it all so worth it
Even if I still wish I was home in bed
